Wet iPhones start Court Case

San Francisco woman is suing Apple, Inc. in a class action suit filed in U.S. District Court,  alleging that the company refuses to honor the phone’s warranty by telling her the phone’s “liquid submersion indicator” showed the phone had been dunked in water when it hadn’t.

Charlene Gallion bought a iPhone 3G from an Apple store in Corte Madera in 2008 and it broke down six months later. When she took it into the shop, the customer service rep said the liquid submersion indicator had been activated, indicating it had been exposed to a “significant” amount of liquid. The store refused to honor the warranty that covers “normal use” for a year, and offered a discounted price to replace it. Gallion bought the second phone, but six months later, it started malfunctioning as well. Taking it into the shop, the rep again told her that the submersion indicator was activated, and refused to refund it. Gallion bought a third phone.

Elderly Burglar Jailed

An 80-year-old woman with a rap sheet that dates to 1955 was sentenced to three years behind bars for burglarizing a medical office building in Torrance. She was especially known to authorities in Beverly Hills as a repeat customer when it came to alleged burglary and thievery.

The Daily Breeze reports that the woman declared loudly “”I plead guilty,” before a judge this week in Superior Court. “I’m 80 years old,” she said. “I don’t think I’ll ever come back – except I’m going to die and be in the morgue.”

Thompson was arrested Feb. 4 for slipping in and burglarizing the Children’s Medical Group office at 3440 Lomita Blvd. in Torrance in December. Detectives soon realized she had a rap sheet in Beverly Hills, where she was sentenced to two years for a 2008 burglary there but was released on parole in October.

Her arrest record in Beverly Hills includes collars on suspicion of theft in 1965 and 1977, burglary in 1980, and burglary in 2008. She’s also been arrested in Pasadena and Newport Beach.

Thompson said that if she received more money from the government she would not need to steal.

“I feel guilty for asking this,” Thompson said as she faced the judge. “Is this a solid three years or is it just half time?”

He said she could be out in 18 months.

Author’s Note: Sad to see this happening in the recession, the elderly should not have to steal to survive. These are our elders stealing!
