Wet iPhones start Court Case

San Francisco woman is suing Apple, Inc. in a class action suit filed in U.S. District Court,  alleging that the company refuses to honor the phone’s warranty by telling her the phone’s “liquid submersion indicator” showed the phone had been dunked in water when it hadn’t.

Charlene Gallion bought a iPhone 3G from an Apple store in Corte Madera in 2008 and it broke down six months later. When she took it into the shop, the customer service rep said the liquid submersion indicator had been activated, indicating it had been exposed to a “significant” amount of liquid. The store refused to honor the warranty that covers “normal use” for a year, and offered a discounted price to replace it. Gallion bought the second phone, but six months later, it started malfunctioning as well. Taking it into the shop, the rep again told her that the submersion indicator was activated, and refused to refund it. Gallion bought a third phone.

WIN the NEW Apple iPad

The iPad is a tablet computer developed by Apple Inc. Announced on January 27, 2010, it is part of a category between a smartphone and a laptop computer.

Similar in functionality to the smaller, less powerful iPhone or iPod touch, it runs a modified version of the same operating system (iPhone OS), with a user interface redesigned to take advantage of the larger screen. The iPad has a 9.7-inch (25 cm) LED backlit multi-touch display, 16 to 64 gigabytes (GB) of flash memory, Bluetooth, and a 30-pin dock connector to sync with iTunes and connect wired accessories. Two models have been announced: one with 802.11n Wi-Fi and one with 802.11n Wi-Fi and 3G (which can connect to HSDPA cellular networks), and Assisted GPS. Both models may be purchased with three different storage capacities.

As Apple’s first device to use its iBookstore service and companion iBooks ebook reading application, the iPad has been compared with Amazon’s Kindle and Barnes & Noble’s Nook.

Apple Tablet may be Myth

This Coming week, Apple unveils a tablet about which rumors have been swirling for the past year. Like Microsoft’s tablet, no images or specs have been leaked.

If you’re the betting type, here are some more good odds: the tablet will be called an iSlate, have much more capability than simply an e-reader, boast a 10-inch touchscreen and sell for less than $1,000. That’s all well and good-but at least one technologist isn’t convinced.

Not about a 10-inch touchscreen, anyway.
